Government officials in the Philippines are speaking with the US legislators about our country’s concerns about the Anti-Outsourcing bill that will have a major impact to the business process outsourcing in the Philippines, as reported by local news sites on Friday, January 27, 2012.

Philippine Ambassador Jose Cuisia has been speaking to US legislators to lobby against the Anti-Outsourcing bill that would have a very serious negative impact on the Business Process Outsourcing Industry in the Philippines, according to Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo.

The Anti-Outsourcing bill has been filled in the US congress to make US companies that have call centers overseas ineligible for grants and guaranteed loans from the federal government. The bill also proposes a $10,000 a day penalty fee on US call center that will fail to report its relocation to a local location within 60 days to the Labor department.

Under this Anti-Outsourcing Bill, call center operators are requires to identify their location. Callers will now have the capability to choose an operator who is based in the US.

According to other news sites, past few days, US President Barack Obama proposed several tax measures that will encourage American companies to increase the jobs available for the Americans. These actions are bad new for the Philippines’ BPO industry that targets and relies on US-based clients.

We all know that we our wages are much lower than in the US. This is the reason why many American companies are outsourcing their call center services to the Philippines and also, India.

Many companies in the US are forced to shut down because of the crisis they are experiencing nowadays. The lack of job opportunities in the US is increasing and some Americans blame outsourcing for having a high unemployment.
